About the Artist
I am an artist in Northern California specializing in portraits, figures, and landscapes. I work primarily in oils, watercolors, charcoal, and graphite.
It wasn’t until well into adulthood that I realized I wanted a career in art. After earning a B.A. in Biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, I stayed away from drawing and painting for over a decade. Finally in 2011, I started taking workshops with renowned Northern California artists Carolyn Lord and Lynn Sanguedolce. Encouraged by these teachers to continue, in 2015 I took a workshop with Andrew Ameral at the Golden Gate Atelier in Oakland, California. There I realized I had finally found my niche in Classical Realism. I spent 2016-2018 completing the part-time program at the Atelier, at the same time taking the Anatomy/Écorché program, Composition, and Art History. I was honored to be awarded the school’s “Best Écorché Sculpture” in 2017.
Since then, I have continued to develop my technique and style in all my favorite media. My commissioned portrait paintings and drawings are in private collections all over the country. In between completing those, I constantly explore landscapes and pastoral scenes with oils, both en plein air and in the studio. In the years after the COVID pandemic, I’ve also developed a new style of painting landscapes and animals using watercolors. The result is a whimsical, joyful representation of the natural world.
My goal is always to push myself into constructive discomfort, specifically the discomfort of trying things that are new and therefore difficult for me. I find that I grow most when I try the scary things in life, and nowhere is this more true than in my art career.
